Last month, we shared with you the shocking rescue of Simotua, an elephant calf that had been attacked by poachers.
Speared in the skull by poachers, and suffering from a terrible snare wound to his leg, even our teams who have rescued more than 180 orphaned infant elephants from all manner of situations to date, were shocked when they first laid eyes on him.
Because of the severity of his injuries, our keepers have been giving Simotua intensive care and by last week, his wound had healed enough to venture out into the Nairobi Forest for the first time with the other elephant orphans!
